GP717 - Handmade Books

We don’t know whether it’s a retro response to today’s media, but there seems to be a lot of interest in books that get made one at a time. We’ll hear from Jacob Samuel, a fine-arts publisher whose limited-edition books are so carefully crafted they’re considered museum pieces even when they’re new. And we also welcome David Drum, a journalist, novelist, and poet who makes and sells his own hand-crafted editions. #amwriting #selfpub #podcast

What IS a handmade book? Are there different types? How did you come to do them, and how do you market them?

And, as ever, there's lots of advice on how to get published, including the support resources at our website getpublishedradio.com.

GP724R- Spirituality and Metaphysics

When we first considered doing a show on the nonfiction book category of spirituality and metaphysics, we weren't sure how our audience would receive the topic. After all, we're not about preaching to anyone. The world of self-publishing is a big tent, with a broad welcome mat - and we want to keep it that way. Our first impulse was to invite one or more authors whose books are popular and get their views on how people have responded to their work. But then we had the idea to invite someone who is mainly a reader, who has read widely and doesn't necessarily have a personal message to deliver.

Our featured guest Denis Hutchison is co-proprietor with his wife Lois of Afterglow of Sedona (Arizona). We only found out as we were interviewing him that he used to have his own spiritually centered radio show in Phoenix. (Denis does have a deep, mellow voice that is comforting in itself.) #amwriting #selfpub #podcast

His observations and insights about spirituality and metaphysics may surprise you. And - considering that this episode has logged many more listeners than anything we've ever put out there - many of you have found value in his remarks.

Our host Gerald Everett Jones and his co-hosts sci-fi author Thomas Page and journalist Cheyenne Cockrell also enjoy a spirited, full and frank exchange of views among themselves.

Gerald Everett Jones is author of Clifford's Spiral, a novel about a stroke survivor trying to piece together fragmented memories of his life, loves, and lusts.

GP724 - Spirituality and Metaphysics

When we first considered doing a show on the nonfiction book category of spirituality and metaphysics, we weren't sure how our audience would receive the topic. After all, we're not about preaching to anyone. The world of self-publishing is a big tent, with a broad welcome mat - and we want to keep it that way.

Our first impulse was to invite one or more authors whose books are popular and get their views on how people have responded to their work. But then we had the idea to invite someone who is mainly a reader, who has read widely and doesn't necessarily have a personal message to deliver.

Our featured guest is Denis Hutchison is co-proprietor with his wife Lois of Afterglow of Sedona (Arizona).
